"Our bookshops are the lighthouses for every writerly boat on the ocean. Without them we cannot set sail. They are the little churches and heroic temples of our endeavours."
-
Sebastian Barry
What is Irish Book Week?
Irish Book Week 2023 takes place 14 – 21 October.
Ireland is internationally recognised as a country of books. Our bookshops play a crucial role in championing homegrown talent and putting great Irish books into the hands of readers. They are cultural hubs. They provide us with recommendations for as yet undiscovered delights, the means to browse at our leisure, opportunities to meet our favourite authors, the chance to connect with other readers and so much more.
Irish Book Week
celebrates Irish authors, publishers, and Irish interest books, as well as the many brilliant bookshops that sell them.
Irish Book Week
was created by Bookselling Ireland, a committee of Booksellers Association members representing bookshops big and small across the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, working closely with
Publishing Ireland
. Irish Book Week launched in 2018.
How Can I Celebrate Irish Book Week?
Celebrate Irish Book Week by shopping with your local bookshop; in person, online or over the phone. Show your support in a practical way, because shopping with your local bookshop is the most effective way to ensure their survival and success, and that really is something worth celebrating.
